Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, the capital and most populous city of Malaysia. And I admit… this isn’t the world’s number one vacation destination. Still, the city has quite a few things on offer. KL is home to the famous Petronas Twin Towers and the stunning Batu Caves, for example. Shopping enthusiasts will also adore the city, as it offers a large variety of malls and department stores. One of those malls is Berjaya Times Square in the Bukit Bintang quarter. It features 1,000 stores, many food outlets and even an indoor theme park. Theme park, you said?

ROLLER COASTERS

Berjaya Times Square Theme Park mainly offers standard family rides, but the park is also home to a quite famous indoor roller coaster. It’s called Supersonic Odyssey, it was built by Intamin and it opened back in 2003. Thanks to its track length of 800 metres and its height of almost 40 metres, Supersonic Odyssey is an impressive ride. The layout is also very unique, because it’s completely adapted to the building it’s standing in. The ride experience is surprisingly smooth and intense, but it’s a shame that the train reaches the final brakes with a relatively high speed. It would’ve been even better if this speed was used for an additional helix or inversion, but hey… that’s just a detail.

ANYTHING ELSE?

This is one of those typical amusement parks within a mall. Apart from Supersonic Odyssey, most rides are simple and rather uninteresting. I’m sure that families with younger children are able to spend a great afternoon here, but Supersonic Odyssey is the only must do for coaster enthusiasts.

WORTH A VISIT?

I’m very glad that I got the chance to ride Supersonic Odyssey, but I’m not planning on going back to this park. The rides are standard and the neighbouring shopping mall feels a little tacky. Still, I’d like to mention the amusement park’s lovely theming and the friendly staff members. Be sure to get this credit if you ever travel to Kuala Lumpur, but honestly… there are better destinations in Asia.
